OUR HISTORY
New Horizons Credit Union, formerly Scott Credit Union and Scott Southern Division Employees Credit Union, has been providing financial services to our members and Southwestern Alabama since 1950.. The Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit organization, governed by a member-elected Board of Directors. Our employees all live, work and play here. We know our neighbors and help them as we all try to make our community a great place to live. We are members of the local churches, chambers of commerce and civic organizations. We participate in local schools and local charities. These are all elements that contribute to making a strong community. At New Horizons Credit Union, we lend to local residents with all lending decisions made by local people. Your hard earned deposits are re-invested right here - in Southwest Alabama. OUR PHILOSOPHY
The foundation of the Credit Union philosophy is "people helping people". Members are the heart of the Credit Union. They are the reason for the Credit Union´s existence. The Credit Union motto, "Not for profit, not for charity, but for service", captures the essence of the Credit Union idea. No one person or organization can own a credit union. Only the members own the Credit Union and they are it´s only customers. The Board of Directors and the active involvement of volunteers form the backbone of the Credit Union movement. Members have a stake in the operation of the Credit Union.
Your savings in your Credit Union are insured up to $100,000 by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), rated the strongest of all federal insurance agencies. In addition, New Horizons Credit Union purchases Excess Share Insurance which insures member accounts for an additional $250,000. This means your account is insured up to $350,000 at no cost to you.
